Compost circling back to the Casey community

City of Casey and Valoriza teamed up at the Berwick Farmers’ Market on 9th May to celebrate International Compost Awareness Week 2026, engaging with local residents and demonstrating the value of food and garden organics recycling in action.

As part of the community initiative, 20 tonnes of high-quality soil conditioner produced at Valoriza’s Dandenong FOGO processing facility were given away to local residents, with around 100 community members taking home nutrient-rich compost to use in their gardens.

The event highlighted how everyday food and garden organics can be transformed into valuable products that support healthier soils, greener gardens and a more sustainable local community. It also provided an opportunity for the Valoriza team to connect directly with residents, answer questions about composting and FOGO recycling, and discuss the role organics recovery plays in supporting Victoria’s circular economy.

The giveaway formed part of International Compost Awareness Week 2026, a global campaign focused on raising awareness about the environmental benefits of composting and returning organics back to soil.

Valoriza is proud to work alongside the City of Casey on initiatives that bring together education, community engagement and practical resource recovery outcomes for local residents.
